About the presenter:
Todd Agan, CI & CT, began interpreting professionally in 1994 and received his Bachelors
Degree in ASL/English Interpretation from Western Oregon State College in 1996. In 1999,
he set up an independent medical interpreting mentorship in Minneapolis , MN , through the
College of St. Catherine's. Since that time, Todd has focused his work primarily on medical
settings. In 2001, he relocated to Houston , Texas , to work as a full time interpreter at the
University of Texas - Houston Medical School . Currently, Todd works for the Department of
Graduate Medical Education at the University of California Davis Medical Center, where he is
one of two primary interpreters for an Internal Medicine Resident.

About the workshop:
This workshop, four evenings in duration, will address how to be better prepared to interpret
in medical settings.  Preliminary topics include assumptions that we make regarding the
“ease” of working in the medical environment; requisite skills, qualifications, and basic funds
of knowledge of a well-prepared medical interpreter; discussion of what various medical
settings look like; an introduction to understanding medical terminology; and the interpreter's
impact on the doctor-patient relationship.

Registration Details:
  • Registration is $65.00 by April 3rd, or $80.00 at the door

  • Target audience is working interpreters (preferably 5+ years experience and nationally
certified) who have little to no experience in the medical setting, who wish to deepen
his/her understanding of the demands of medical assignments, and wish to be better

    working interpreters.
